Second Nature

Is nature natural? I have noticed how we manipulate and reconstruct nature in the way we want and realized how we are controlling(manipulating) nature just like men control women under the long-term patriarchal context. In this work I adorn photography of plants with make-up, forging a symbolic connection between feminism and ecology. Just as we often embellish nature to satisfy our desires and ambitions, I use cosmetics to enhance these plant images to form rhetoric that constructs illusions within human life. Within the framework of a long-standing anthropocentric ideology and Cartesian dualism, the theorists gradually recognize that women are synonymous with nature and there can be no real gender justice without environmental justice. To achieve this, a collective awakening from the illusions we have woven around nature must be realized, and this liberation must be accompanied with the freedom of women from the shackles of masculine culture.

The audience is welcome to put make-up on my photographs during the exhibition.
